In March, the Canary Islands recorded the arrival of 1.73 million tourists, according to the Frontiers Tourist Movement Statistics compiled by the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC). This represents a slight increase of 0.04% compared to the same month in 2024 — that’s 706 additional visitors.
International tourism continues to be the main driver of the sector: 9 out of 10 tourists came from abroad, reflecting a 0.5% increase. On the other hand, domestic tourism saw a 5% decline.
The United Kingdom remains the leading source market, accounting for 32.1% of all visitors — a total of 555,257 people. Germany followed with 17.8%, and residents from mainland Spain represented 7.8% of arrivals.
Tenerife received the highest number of tourists, welcoming 677,689 visitors — nearly 4 out of every 10 tourists. It was followed by Gran Canaria (27.3%), Lanzarote (17.6%), and Fuerteventura (14.6%).
When it comes to length of stay, 68% of tourists spent between 1 and 7 nights in the archipelago, while just 2.5% stayed for more than 31 days. The main reason for travel was leisure.
Nearly half of all tourists (50.8%) arrived with a pre-booked package tour, which includes at least transport and accommodation at an indivisible price. Hotels and apartments remained the preferred types of lodging, with 81.6% of tourists choosing these accommodations.
